The Dark Knight Rises has started shooting

Wow, damn… so we are now really entering the phase where the news become real news and not some speculations about “Robin’s hideout”, “CGI-Joker” and stuff like that. The shooting starts in India for May 6th and 7th with actor Christian Bale.

They will film in Jodhpur and use the Mehrangarh Fort as a background – I am very curious what this will turn into…

Finally an official statement about Cotillard and Gordon-Levitt in TKDR!

After a load of fake insider-news, insane speculation and spoiling The Long Halloween in the titles of the articles Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are now officially cast for The Dark Knight Rises and they are….

…characters created specifically for the film.

Josh Pence in The Dark Knight Rises

Josh Pence has been announced by “sources” (according to THR) to play a role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. According to The Hollywood Reporter he will play

SPOILER

A young version of Ra’s al Ghul, set 30 years in the past.
Ra’s al Ghul was portrayed by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins. If that news is true then maybe The Dark Knight Rises will have Nolan return to his twisted flashback-storytelling (see Following, Memento and Prestige) – well that’s as good a guess as anyone’s. Maybe Nolan will go bafuckinsane make Batman travel through time to stop Ra’s al Ghul from taking polyjuicepotion and kill Bruce’s parents to get Joe Chill arrested who is – gasp – the real father of Bruce Wayne?

Let’s just wait and see, but my money is on Lucius Fox building a rocket ship that travels through time (as hinted in The Dark Knight).

Pence played a role in David Ficher’s The Social Network, but you might not have seen him: he was a body double for Armie Hammer who played the Winklevoss twins. Hammer’s face was superimposed over Pence’s.

Gary Oldman – The Dark Knight Rises interview (kinda)

Check the interview here.

Well actually it should be an interview about Red Riding Hood (omg!! directed by the director of twilight!!!), but everyone is reporting it as interview about The Dark Knight Rises.

He hasn’t read the script, but heard Nolan’s storyoutline and it contains a good role for Gordon (but seeing after the events of Dark Knight this one is hopefully to be expected).

Oldman says that the story will return to Batman Begins and that there will be a discovery of Bruce Wayne about himself.

Now I don’t think this “proves” the rumors that the League of Shadows returns, maybe they do, but maybe he means the evolution of Wayne or that it will be about his parents again… one never knows.

Of course Oldman tells us that Nolan has topped Dark Knight, it is the usual studio hyperbole, we have all grown accustomed to, but the fact that he can pin down a theme and a characterdevelopment gives one hope.
There is a story at the heart of it all, something worth telling and it’s not the usual “oh it’s bigger and more action” or “batman gets new cool toys”, which is always a good sign.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
Watch out for this movie!
Because like the Doc used to say when this movie starts “… you’re gonna see some serious shit“.

Based on the british spy novel of the same name Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is directed by Thomas Alfredson – the director who made the beautiful Let the Right one in, one of the best movies of 2008 and definitely the best modern vampire movie.

Among the cast is not only Gary Oldman, but also:

Colin Firth
Tom Hardy
Mark Strong

and…. (drumroll)

Konstantin Khabensky!

The russian actor who played the lead role of Anton Gorodetsky in both Nightwatch and Daywatch.

If this movie is only half as exciting as the cast, I’m ok with it.

Beware of The Dark Knight Rises info that might actually be true

In the last few weeks it has gotten ridiculous how much speculation surrounding The Dark Knight Rises can be caused by “inside infos”. Now another leak might have happened and according to batman-on-film, one of the sites covering comic book movies on a semi-serious basis with access to real sources.

Bill Raimi from batman-on-film confirms that he has known about this plotpoint for a while now and therefore he knows that this time the leak is for real.

Here is the plotsynopsis found on comicbookmovie.com (remember they are the attention-seekers who reported with full confidence the Roman Sionis rumor last time, but since BOF confirmed it it is at least semi-plausible):

As she herself confirmed, Anne Hathaway will be Catwoman in the movie. I can’t tell you what role she has in the beginning, but by the end of the story Catwoman isn’t a villain but rather an ally of Batman. And who are they teaming up to take out?

The League of Shadows.

Headed by Talia Al’Ghul. With Bane, who is her muscle/possible love interest. And with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in tow. Is he playing Black Mask? My source didn’t know, but did know that Levitt is certainly an antagonist and involved with the League of Shadows.”

Now before we get all angry that Nolan messed up Catwoman and that Catwoman shouldn’t help Batman etc. I guess this (IF true) is really just the basic outline. If you know Nolan you know that there are gonna be a lot of twists and turns to be exciting, because you can even say “In Dark Knight the Joker turns Two-Face mad” and it is not nearly half as awesome as the result we got.

Those “spoilers” seem right now like the guesswork that has been done by most people. Thalia would be the tie to Batman Begins, she would know about Bruce Wayne, I just hope that Bane doesn’t suffer from this and gets degraded once again to a henchman.

Tom Hardy talks very little (but at least a little) about TDKR

UPDATE: the people from How it should have ended have released How-The-Dark-Knight-should-have-ended.

The man who will be playing Bane in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises (by Christopher Nolan) spills very little about Christopher Nolan and Bane.

He assures us that Bane will be menacing and not like this:

When talking about the mask he skillfully averted giving a direct answer. Also he says that he will have to bulk up and gain a lot of weight for the role of Bane, so I’m very curious about his physical transformation for The Dark Knight Rises.

The Dark Knight Rises will hit the screens July 20th 2012.

Stay tuned for more Bat-news, an upcoming review of Bronson (featuring Tom Hardy) and the first annual flip-the-truck-awards.

And Update: Shit Rumor as usual!

Update: Comic book movie news made the news up, since the link to it seems no longer to be working  – what a surprise.

Hey: Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been spotted and apparently he’s putting on some weight for the role of The Penguin. Also Schwarzenegger is said to have a cameo as Dr. Victor Fries.

You heard it here first.

There was the announcment that this week we would see some major Bat-news, but buyer beware:

The current news comes not directly from Warner Brothers and could be just another infamous rumor:

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/?a=30217

According to this article Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are confirmed for The Dark Knight Rises as:

Talia al Ghul
Roman Sionis (Black Mask)

Let’s wait if we get any confirmation from an official site.
I was hoping for Sionis/Black Mask but when it was announced that the villain would be Bane I was fine with it.

Now IF this is true (and to quote Aldo the Apache “And that’s one big if”) there would be four characters after Bruce Wayne.

And IF this is true, it doesn’t mean that Nolan will go with a conventional team up.
Maybe Sionis and Talia won’t be that big of roles and they might fill in the shoes of the gotham underworld getting slowly changed. Sionis is a great character since he despises the likes of Bruce Wayne and Talia can be tied to Batman Begins.

But I guess we no longer live in the Burton/Schumacher times, which means that a character doesn’t necessarily have to be the spotlight the entire movie for an eventual team up, just look how Dark Knight handled Two-Face, there was no “Hey Joker let’s get together and kill the bat”.

If they go with different motivations then Sionis can be a Maroni/Falcone type of character, providing the ressources for Bane or something else entirely.

According to Michael Caine (always with a grain of salt to take since he also talked about Johnny Depp being the Riddler) Nolan is not yet finished with the script.

Other sources say he’s finished the first draft and now has to trim it because it is very long.

Let’s wait until we get official confirmation.

Marion Cotillard for The Dark Knight Rises?

According to french magazine Le Figaro (The content is hidden for non registered users, batman-on-film brought the story as well) Marion Cotillard has signed on for The Dark Knight Rises.

If that is true, then the obvious question is: who’s she gonna play?

Since she awaits her child in may and TDKR starts shooting in may it might get a little stressful for her, but probably her role (second lead actress) won’t be as big as Hathaway’s Selina Kyle.

The most popular bet is now on Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, who was portrayed by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins.

This would be a very nice throwback to make the trilogy come full circle. With most comic book adaptions more villains will result in an eventual team up of two or more colorful villains who only differ in their gimmicks.

Although it could work here if Talia is introduced in the form of a wealthy industrialist or something along the lines, coming to Gotham, just named Talia at first. Her company is going heads on with Wayne Enterprises and Talia could act as a character who challenges Bruce’s public persona, whereas Catwoman faces his Batman persona, resulting in a very nice identity conflict, but I’m drifting off since right now we know nothing for sure.

But right now with Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy (he’ll be back for sure), Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard there are a bunch of Inception actors on this project right now.

Prepare for the next “insider” information on The Dark Knight Rises

Ok…. I hate these rumors, but just that you are warned when the new “news” will be that “Robin is in The Dark Knight Rises”.

The “news” is that location scouts from The Dark Knight Rises have looked at Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge (Michigan), especially the water treatment plant as a hideout for (gasp) Batman’s Sidekick Robin!

So before you shriek out etc. let’s just say that this is nothing official and the sources are people who would like to stay anonymous due to confidentiality agreements.

Secondly: We already got Bane AND Selina Kyle, who already have a lot of story to cover, so it doesn’t make that much sense to include Robin.

Thirdly: Apart from the fact that it’s probably just a report for the sake of getting traffic (remember CGI Heath Ledger in Dark Knight Rises and The Penguin/Riddler news) maybe it’s also a deception on Warner Brother’s part. Maybe they’re stating to look for a certain character location to divert our attention and look for something else entirely.
Who knows… just don’t go out and tout it as a fact.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in The Dark Knight Rises

Well the rumor has been going on since he was cast for his role in Inception…

Levitt was rumored to replace the Joker because he seemed to resemble Heath Ledger. Naturally the Joker rumors were shot down quickly, but apparently Levitt is still in the mix for The Dark Knight Rises.

Well Deadline seems more or less of a safe source so I’m going along in assuming that the statement that Levitt is meeting to talk for a role in TDKR.

Curious what his role will be, let’s wait and see the conspiracies spread.

It speaks volumes for the anticipation of this movie compared to other blockbusters, since the tiniest casting choice is already worthy of a big news, but what else is to expect after the fantastic The Dark Knight.

To wet one’s appetite a little more, here’s an interview with Wally Pfister, the man who started to shot direct to video erotic movies and has now been nominated four times for his work as cinematographer (Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception – notice what they have in common?)

The interview doesn’t say much, expect the usual “he nailed it” “It’s a perfect script” all the things I would like to believe The Dark Knight Rises is – but of course coming from a guy who worked on the movie one has to take the news with a grain of salt.
